Acrylic on canvas. No frame. Dimensions: 45.5 x 35.5 cm Painting depicts a cityscape - a dirt road with three main buildings. The three buildings are identified as Kelly's Hall (old city hall in Port Coquitlam), the Coquitlam hotel, and IN Stables. There is line of people standing in front of Kelly's Hall in black uniforms. Crowds observe the scene from the street and from the hotel. This painting is based on a black and white photograph from the archive (see 2008.001.483). The archival photograph and this painting depicts recruits for the first world war B.C. Horse gathering/muster in front of Kelly's Hall and the Coquitlam Hotel on Dewdney Trunk Road (now Kingsway) c. 1914. Artist's symbol/initials located at BR corner. |
